During the week of November 15, 2021, Secure Fisheries’ senior research associate, Paige Roberts, and researcher, Colleen Devlin, participated in two sessions of the Conservation Alliance for Seafood Solutions’ (CASS) 2021 Virtual Annual Meeting. Paige presented Secure Fisheries’ work in the Somali region during a session titled “Getting to the Starting Block: How do we help small-scale fisheries become sustainable when FIPs and certifications are out of reach?” She and three experts working in Peru, Mexico, and China discussed alternatives to fisheries improvement projects (FIPs) for small-scale fisheries in these countries. Colleen spoke to Marah Hardt of Future of Fish during the session, “Conversations on Climate: Building A Network for Climate Action in Seafood.” She presented her research on the nexus between fisheries conflict and climate change in the Somali region. CASS brings together global seafood stakeholders to align priorities and amplify efforts to reach the ambitious goal, “By 2030, at least 75% of global seafood production is environmentally sustainable or making verifiable improvement and safeguards are in place to ensure social responsibility.”
