Mahad Awale, Country Director of Shuraako, Somalia was honored with a lifetime achievement award from the Somali community in Columbus, Ohio. Mahad was awarded for his commitment to public service and his accomplishments working with the soccer community as both a coach and a mentor. He was recognized for his efforts in organizing a literacy campaign that saw the shipment of three containers full of school supplies to Somalia and for organizing emergency funds for the 2011 drought and current crises there. Furthermore, Mahad’s work with Shuraako was highlighted for its success in bringing much needed capital to Somali businesses. Mahad is an influential change maker who gives back to his community and country. Congratulations Mahad!
