Alla Magan Gums and Resins Processing Center

Alla Magan Gums and Resins Processing Center (“Alla Magan”) is located in Burao, the center of Somaliland's gums and resins industry.  The company has been in operation since 2002, and is the sole supplier of processed and graded gums and resins to NEO Botanika, a large gums and resins export trading company in Somaliland.  Allamagan’s success in the sector results from its long standing relationship with local suppliers, management standards aimed at preventing exploitation of harvesters, and the company’s provision of training and capacity building to suppliers.

Alla Magan is unique in its market for their hiring practices: as of March 2020, just over 60% of all permanent employees were women. As collateral for their loan secured via the Nordic Horn of Africa Opportunities Fund, Alla Magan is building an additional processing facility with restrooms for the women they have hired and plan to hire in the future. In addition, Alla Magan offers extensive training to employees and raw materials vendors; including ways to harvest products sustainably and work safely with processing machinery.
