Araan Farm

Founded in 2007, Araan Farm (“Araan”) is a 16-hectare farm which uses a river-fed, diesel pump irrigation system. For planting, the farm relied heavily on rental tractors, which were not only costly but at times unavailable when needed. Prior to receiving its Shuraako-facilitated investment, the farm had 12 hectares (75 percent) of the land under cultivation, producing a variety of fruits and vegetables.

Through the investment, the farm was able to purchase a tractor, which allowed Araan to increase production on the land already under cultivation while also increasing the amount of land cultivated from 12 to 14.4 hectares. As a secondary income stream, Araan decided to rent out the tractor when not in use by the farm, which will contribute to approximately 3 percent of the farm’s future revenue.
