Gaameelo Workshop and Training Center

Founded in 1994, Gaameelo Workshop and Training Center (“Gaameelo”) is a privately owned auto repair company in Hargeisa, Somaliland. The garage offers a wide range of services that include routine vehicle maintenance, body shop repairs, engine and transmission repairs, cylinder heads and valve grinding, and cylinder block boring. Gaameelo also provides training programs for both local mechanics and its own staff, through an apprenticeship program with referrals from nongovernmental organizations such as HOVOYOCO and Save the Children.

Though demand for newer vehicle models has risen in Somaliland, most garages are still unequipped to service them. Despite being the only garage in Somaliland with an operating Torno facility, Gaameelo’s capabilities were still hindered by the lack of advanced diagnostic equipment needed to properly service newer car models. Through a Shuraako-brokered investment, Gaameelo was able to tap into this market and increase its yearly profits by constructing a 330 m² warehouse and procuring a four-post lift with alignment; four electro hydraulic two-post, gate-type lifts; two engine scanners; 500-, 300-, and 100-liter compressors; and an autobody dent-removal set.
