Las Anod Medical Center (“LMC”) was opened in Las Anod, Sool region, Somaliland in 2013 to meet the preventive, curative, and rehabilitative healthcare needs of the region’s underserved population. LMC treats 7,200 patients a year, providing a variety of health services, 24 hours a day. LMC primarily treats women of reproductive age and children; meeting the demand for obstetric, gynecological, and pediatric services as evidenced by Las Anod’s extremely high maternal and child mortality rates. In addition to its main service center, LMC organizes medical campaigns which provide specialized services and basic medical care to populations in remote areas around Las Anod. LMC pitched its business at the Somali Investment Forum, hosted by Shuraako in March 2015, seeking investment so that it could move to a larger facility and accommodate more patients.
After receiving interest from investors at the Somali Investment Forum, LMC secured financing and expanded its facility. With this investment, the number of patient visits per year has nearly doubled. The new facility has enabled more Somalis to access quality healthcare and has created 10 local jobs.
