Sundus

Sundus Business Center (“Sundus”) has been operating in the fishing sector in Puntland since 2008. It is a successful holding company comprised of multiple businesses including fishing, restaurants, livestock, hospitality services, construction, and transportation. Sundus’ main revenue comes from fishing while its second largest revenue stream is from its restaurant. The company does not own a fishing fleet and thus purchases fish directly from fishermen. Insufficient refrigeration capacity has hindered its growth since much of its catch spoils. The company was using inefficient, small freezers, which are unable to hold its large supply of fish.

With secured financing, Sundus was able to develop its cold chain storage and delivery capabilities, thereby reducing spoilage. The company also procured additional transportation capacity so that its catch can reach all of its target markets throughout Puntland. Sundus was able to increase revenue and profit by reaching additional consumers and reducing spoilage.
